Happy Birthday to my wonderful Mother, who turns . . .  I won`t publish her age on my blog, she`d kill me lol!

I couldn`t have gotten through the last few months without her.  I love her dearly and am looking forward to meeting her for lunch tomorrow.  I just baked red velvet cupcakes for the occasion :)

19.

19 today.

All moms stand in disbelief on days like this, don't we? How can she be 19? Just yesterday we were taking her to preschool for the first time. How can she be 19? Just yesterday was her first day of Middle School.  How can she be 19? Didn't she just start high school? How can she be 19? She just got her license.

You get the picture.

 
 
So in honour of her 19th birthday, I thought I would share 19 things about her:

1. She has a wicked sense of humour.

2. She's a fitness fanatic and very disciplined about her time at the gym. She inspires me.

3. She is a very, very loyal friend.

4. She is lethal when crossed.

5. She has a laugh that stops traffic - literally!

6. She does not take lightly to being told what to do.

7. She has broken 4 fingers and a wrist (separate accidents).

8. She would sell her soul for a good foot massage.

9. She can sleep anywhere, at any time!

10. She is extremely determined.

11. She has a magnetic personality and wins people over without even trying.

12. She is inherently messy. Very.

13. Her favourite food is nachos.

14. She loves her sister and the feeling is mutual.

15. She thinks she wants to be a teacher.

16. As of today, she has completed her first year of University and did beautifully!

17. She is demanding.

18. She shares my Kardashian addiction fascination.

19. She is an amazing daughter. We share a very close relationship and for that I am so very, very grateful.

 

Today, for the first time ever, I won't be able to give her a hug and a kiss on her birthday, but that's all part of growing up, isn't it??

Another teenager in the house. . .

Today, our big brown fella turns 13. Well, not so brown. Brown and white.

 
We know we are on borrowed time with this guy. We know what the life expectancy for a lab is, and we know he's well passed it.

We don't like to think about that. We like to love him and appreciate him, and enjoy his quirks and the liberties he takes now that he's of a certain age (like napping on the living room furniture!).

You would be hard pressed to find a better family dog. He's loyal and protective and strong, and he just knows when you need a cuddle and some company.  He loves to be where the people are, so whether it's a bunch of teenagers watching a movie very loudly in the basement, or my book club gathered in the living room, he's there. He's mellow and very, very sweet.

He still loves to play in the snow or romp on the golf course, and he still navigates the stairs like a pro, just maybe a slower pro then back in his crazy-puppy days (and believe me, he was a crazy, wild-man puppy!)

So, when he's stretched out in a sunbeam and smiling up at us, we now take the time to crawl down onto the floor and join him in his sunbeam, and give him an extra cuddle or 2, and thank him deeply for making it to the ripe old age of 13 and for being such an important part of our family!

Winter Formal!

Good Morning! Happy February!

Are you as happy to see the end of January as I am? (and no, it had nothing to do with a certain birthday. . .)

I featured one beautiful daughter yesterday, but did you know I have a second one?? I say that tongue-in-cheek because Rebecca really dislikes having her picture taken. Ironic, perhaps? Almost cruel I think! But, when there is a crowd I use it to my advantage, hee hee.

Winter Formal was held back in December and what a day! We were supposed to have quite a few of the kids over for pre-dance photos. Mother nature decided to intervene and sent a storm our way, and knocked our power out!!

Thankfully it stayed on at the school.

We relocated to a friend's house (who still had power!) and shot some pictures very very quickly, because precious time was lost after fumbling around in our very dark house trying to find the dress, the shoes, the jewelery, the make up - you get the picture!

Someone referred to them as Gordo, Lizzie and Miranda and it absolutely cracked me up.

Does anyone get that reference??

 

Anyways, so pleased with the pictures I did get, even if there weren't very many.

And because you ask and I always forget, yes, I did use  my external flash for each shot which was a challenge. I know exactly how to use it in my house, but shooting in the house we were at was completely unexpected!

Last year's winter formal night was stormy too.

Next year, I'll be prepared!

Well hello!

Helloooo. . . .? This thing on? Wow, where did I go?? Took a blog break. Didn't have a whole lot to say. Was sidelined with a case of the January blues. Thankfully, my spirit seems to improving, maybe it's the longer days? Although the cold here over the last few days has been just ridiculous, windchills of -35 to -38. Way too cold. The kind of cold that just doesn't let you warm up, even with the heat up and the fireplace on.

I have lots to share! I'll start with these photos I took of my sister and her family (ahem, way back in October when I was in Ontario for ScrapFest). I love these. The light was spectacular and the pumpkin patch was amazing! My very favourite one will be appearing in the next issue of SCT so I can't share that one, but these are all favourites too:

14 years ago today....

...we welcomed our second daughter into the world and the world hasn't been the same since! Where has the time gone?? She's smart, she's beautiful and she's incredibly sweet, and I'm not just saying that because I'm her mother! Happy 14th Birthday Rebecca!!!
