Movie Time!

Good Morning! The last day of March - wow!

Are you watching Survivor this time around? I almost gave up when Russell was given the boot (yes, I am a fan, for entertainment purposes only) but I stuck around and I think it's as good as it's been in awhile.

Idol? That'll be a whole other post!

The week-long birthday celebration is continuing over at the Scrapbook and Cards Today Blog, and in fact I'm up today with some birthday photo shooting tips so head on over!

OK, movies! As you know, I love them - love going to the theatre, love watching them on dvd or on demand, love Netflix, I am a movie girl!

Here are some I've seen lately:

 
LIMITLESS: Entertaining. Bradley Cooper can definitely carry a movie. It had a few silly moments, but I liked it overall. Robert deNiro always reminds me of my father, and Emma saw it and said exactly the same thing!

 
RED RIDING HOOD: Twilight with a cape, really. However, when my teenage daughter organizes a movie night with her 2 friends and their moms, who am I to say no?? The company was lovely :)

 
LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS: Pretty bad. Between the Oscars and this, I am losing faith in Ann Hathaway. Although Jake is hot :)

 
DUE DATE: Double awful. 2 of my favourites and it just went so wrong!

Now a couple I am looking forward to:

 
DIARY OF A WIMPY KID RODRICK RULES: The first one cracked.me.up. I have a weird sense of humour, which would explain why I want to rent this:

 
JACKASS 3: I have been a Johnny Knoxville fan for a long time, and I don't like the gross stuff they do, but the blindfolded skateboarding and wasps in locked limos - love it! 

 
THE LINCOLN LAWYER : I actually think this one looks good - has anyone seen it?

 
INSIDIOUS: I am a sucker for a really good  scary movie and this trailer scared the sh!t out of me so I have high hopes; the only question is, am I brave enough to go see it in a theatre and who would go with me?? (PS - same makers as Paranormal Activity - eek!)

WATER FOR ELEPHANTS: Loved the book, loved it. Not sure if R-Patz has the depth to play Jacob, but we'll soon see!

A very happy FIFTH birthday to Scrapbook and Cards Today!!!  It's no easy feat to continually put out an on-trend, visually pleasing and informative publication that always has its finger on the pulse of the industry!! 

Catherine and Becky do a tremendous job, issue after issue!

I would be remiss if I didn't give a shout out to Kerry McCrorie who was instrumental in helping Catherine build and shape the magazine from the very beginning. She initially reached out and took a chance on me, and the rest, as they say, is history!

I love contributing to this magazine! It always has such a sense of 'fresh' about it. The colours, the fonts, the paper, the layouts that are featured - it all speaks to me! Catherine and Becky are fun and positive to work with and always so supportive when I throw a new idea their way!

SCT is celebrating by doing some really fun stuff on the blog, of course! Have you seen what they're giving away!?! Here's a hint: it starts with an 'iPod' and ends with a 'touch' :)

Launch Day and Earth Hour!

 
Good Morning!

It's Friday - yippee!

It's launch day for these 2 amazing publications:

 

 

I am lucky enough to have a few projects in each of them and I cannot wait to see them both IRL! In the meantime, I'll be reading them both online!

I want to thank Hannah for letting me use the photos I took of her for her grad shoot, and my sister and her fam for letting me use my very favourite shot from this shoot. 

So, weekend plans?

I am looking forward to a fun wedding reception for a very cute couple as well as finally tweaking my bedroom curtains!

 

Earth Hour is Saturday night. I think with everything that's been going on with our planet lately, it's more important that ever to show the earth the respect it demands. Earth Hour began in 2007, in Australia. A short 3 years later, 1.3 BILLION  people were particpating. Now that's powerful!

Sprinkles!

Good Morning!

How was the weekend?

Lots of rain here but that's just fine, wash away allllllllllll that snow!

Are there some things that just make you happy for no apparent reason? Sure there are! For example, if I had the time, I would put fresh sheets on my bed every.single.day.  Same with a freshly laundered bathmat - love being the first one to step onto it straight out of the dryer!

Sprinkles are another thing that make me happy, just because.

Another teenager in the house. . .

Today, our big brown fella turns 13. Well, not so brown. Brown and white.

 
We know we are on borrowed time with this guy. We know what the life expectancy for a lab is, and we know he's well passed it.

We don't like to think about that. We like to love him and appreciate him, and enjoy his quirks and the liberties he takes now that he's of a certain age (like napping on the living room furniture!).

You would be hard pressed to find a better family dog. He's loyal and protective and strong, and he just knows when you need a cuddle and some company.  He loves to be where the people are, so whether it's a bunch of teenagers watching a movie very loudly in the basement, or my book club gathered in the living room, he's there. He's mellow and very, very sweet.

He still loves to play in the snow or romp on the golf course, and he still navigates the stairs like a pro, just maybe a slower pro then back in his crazy-puppy days (and believe me, he was a crazy, wild-man puppy!)

So, when he's stretched out in a sunbeam and smiling up at us, we now take the time to crawl down onto the floor and join him in his sunbeam, and give him an extra cuddle or 2, and thank him deeply for making it to the ripe old age of 13 and for being such an important part of our family!

Good Morning and TGIF!

Is it just me or has it been a long week??

I hope you headed over to the Scrapbook and Cards Today Blog where I was guest-blogging on Monday and Wednesday! Catherine runs a great blog. Because I know her personally, I can hear her 'voice' in all of her posts!

Ok, on to my rediscovered obsession - decorating!  If I have a spare moment lately, I am on decorating blogs. If only I had the time to try all the projects I fall in love with. Oh well, I can pick away at them as time allows. 

Here are a few decorating projects from blogland that have really caught my eye lately:

4. The Master Bedroom Re-do at The Lettered Cottage. Most self-respecting DIY wannabe home decorators (ahem! tell me I'm not alone here ladies!) know of the charming Layla and her wonderful cottage-esque blog.

Just a quick post to say hello and let you know I am blogging here! this week. I'll try and get something up on my blog as well.

The OSCARS!

Good Morning!

I was asked whether or not I have any cards in the new issue of Cardmaps. Yes, yes I do. I am a sel;f-professed NON cardmaker, and am really thrilled that a few of my very simple cards (3, I think?) have made it into the pages of this fun publication along with the who's who of cardmaking

OK, on to the business at hand!

I will first say that I thought Ann Hathway and James Franco did a less than stellar job of hosting. I think it's a tough gig anyways, and she was just forcibly giddy while he was, as Rebecca said, perma-baked!

Onto the important stuff. . . the gowns!!!

A few favourites:

 
sleek, modern, pulled together.

 
so feminine, so lovely.

 
perfect choice for a young mom-to-be.

 
amazing fit and stunning colour on her.  I don't like the look of red gowns on the red carpet though.

 
understated bombshell. Gorgeous!

 
how age appropriate and adorable!

Now for a couple that I wanted to like, but. . .
Normally I am a big fan of vintage dresses, and I do love that midnight blue, but seriously, someone should have altered the gown properly!

 
again, normally I'm a big fan of Calvin Klein and his amazingly simple gowns, but this one, I don't know if it was the blond hair or the neckline, but all I could think of was:

 
can you see it? yikes. Not a great inspiration piece for the Oscars!

My choice for epic fail of the night was:

 
star wars meets easter? I have no idea. Loved the hair and makeup, though.

Lastly, my choice for best dressed was a tie. I love classic fashion, especially when everything else is done properly too (hair, make up, accessories). I thought these two were impeccable:

although Reese's look did remind me a lot of Julia Roberts' 2001 Oscar look:

 

All in all a fun night, I watched the first half with my movie-loving friends which was awesome!

That pretty much wraps up awards-show season, which I just enjoy so much! I still want to see some of the Oscar-nominated movies, especially Winter's Bone and Biutiful.
